Putnam – Vincent J. “Mac” McEvoy, 85, formerly of Church Street, died Sunday, December 30, 2007 in Phoenix, AZ. He was the loving husband of the late Katherine (Meehan) McEvoy until her death in 2001. Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late Vincent and Lydia (Shaw) McEvoy.
Mr. McEvoy worked as a police officer for the Town of Putnam through the 1960s and ‘70s. He also worked for the Putnam Highway Department, as a sexton for St. Mary Church of the Visitation and as a pallbearer for Gilman & Valade Funeral Homes.
Mr. McEvoy was a World War II Coast Guard Veteran and was a member of the Albert J. Breault VFW Post 1523. He also volunteered on the Putnam Fire Department
Mac is survived by his son, James McEvoy and his wife JoAnn of Portland, OR; his daughter, Mary Brumand of Chandler, AZ; and two grandchildren, Jaleila Brumand and Sam Brumand.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Vincent’s family from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, January 4, 2008 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin at 9:00am on Saturday, January 5, 2008 in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Down Syndrome Network, 4025 E. Chandler Blvd, #70-C3, Phoenix, AZ 85048.
