1934 – 20223

Thelma Mae (Ferretti) Hagar exchanged time for eternity on February 5, 2023. She was the 8th of 9 children born to her late beloved father George and Ethel (Weir) Ferretti on August 18,1934 in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Canada. Mom won the Hospital Day Bathing Beauty contest in 1948 and earned the title of “Miss Shelburne” and we still have the trophy to this day.

Mom married the late Melvin L Hagar Sr., on June 17th, 1953, in Shelburne, Nova Scotia and settled in Branford, Ct, where they raised 3 children: Melvin, Jr (Joan), Michael, and Joanne (Vernon) Uhlinger. Mom was a member of the First Baptist Church, sang in the choir, and was in various Ladies Groups there. They moved to Madison, CT., later in life.

Mom enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress. Her needlework was as close as you could get to being perfect. She was an outstanding cook in her early years and could rival Martha Stewart in etiquette. Mom, always liked to look her best when she went out, from head to toe. She always wanted to be a home economics teacher. Mom did work at the Edward Malley CO., and the Durham Pharmacy. Mom took great care of our dad, when he got sick in the 1960’s and 70’s, while raising her 3 children.

Besides her children, she leaves behind 3 grandchildren-Adam, Megan, and Cheyenne, and 2 great-granddaughters Scarlett and Lillia, two cherished sisters Gertrude and Aileen and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, and brothers Arnold, Harold, Carmine, John, and sisters Dorothy, and Mary.

The family would like to thank St. Joseph’s Living Center for all the love and care they provided for Mom. Services will be private and have been entrusted to the Gilman Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT 06260. Foe memorial guestbook please visit www.GilmanAndValade.com.

Mom enjoyed a nice cup of hot tea and shortbread cookies. Please have a cup of tea yourself in memory of Mom.
