Eastford – Sylvia (Ruben) Safin, 79, of Eastford died at home on Thursday, March 15, 2007. She was the wife of the late Chester Safin. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1927, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Ruben and Saima Elson Meduna. She graduated from Windham High School in 1946 and worked at Day Kimball Hospital as an EKG Technician and Switchboard Operator for many years. Mrs. Safin retired in 1993 from Victorian Heights Nursing Home in Manchester, where she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Mrs. Safin passion for cooking. Chocolate cream pie, Coney Island Sauce and her delicate pastries will never be duplicated. She had a caring for others, sometimes for those she hardly knew, and an absolute love for her family. Her other love was for the Ashford Senior Center and all her (as she would put it) family there.
Sylvia is survived by her sons, Paul Safin and his wife Karen of Pomfret Center, and Mark Safin and his wife Coralee of Eastford; 4 grandchildren, Leslie Safin and Michelle Safin of Pomfret Center, Samantha Safin of New York, and Eric Safin and his wife Darcy of Woodstock; 2 step-grandchildren, Peter Bennett Jr. and his wife Shannon of Woodstock, and Emily Hebert and her husband Elmer of Eastford; 4 step-great-grandchildren; her half-brother Frank Meduna of Ashford; 2 half-sisters Janet Bailey and her husband Roger of Georgia and Agnes Golden of Maine.
At Sylvia’s request, visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service in Eastford Grove Cemetery, Rte. 198, Eastford Road, Eastford, CT on Sunday May 6, 2007 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ashford Senior Center, EW Smith Building, 25 Tremko Lane, Ashford, CT 06278. Arrangements entrusted to the Gilman Funeral Home.
