Sr. Veronica Denette,71, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on Tuesday,
May 22 at the Hillcrest Common Nursing Home in Pittsfield, MA .
Born Veronica A. Denette on January 24, 1936 in Pittsfield, MA, the daughter of the late Philias and Dorothy (McDonald) Denette, she entered religious life in 1955 and made her religious profession at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam on April 24, 1957. She was then known as Sr. Edward Thomas.
Sr. Veronica received a B.A. from Diocesan Sisters’ College, South Woodstock, CT. She taught at St. Mary School in Putnam, CT from 1960-64 and at St. Anne School in
Waterbury, CT from 1964-70. In 1971 she was assigned to Pittsfield MA where she took care of her ailing mother until her death in 1983. From that time until the end of 2006 Sr. Veronica did ministry to shut-ins.
Survivors include 2 brothers—William of Washingtonville, NY and Charles of Elgin, OK and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Calling hours at the Holy Spirit Provincial House will be on Thursday, May 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam at 11 AM on Friday, May 25.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT 06260. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT is in charge of arrangements.
