Sr. Regina Fortier, DHS

1924 – 2009

Putnam – Sr. Regina Fortier, DHS, 84, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Holy Spirit Health Care Center.  Born in St. Theodore D’Acton, PQ Canada, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Regina (Berger) Fortier. 

 She entered religious life in 1945 and made her religious profession August 16, 1949 at the Holy Spirit Provincial House, Putnam, CT.  She was then known as Sr. Regina des Anges. 

 Her first assignment in 1949 was at St. Joseph’s Guest House, New Haven, CT.  and from 1953 to 1965 she taught in elementary schools in Burlington, VT, Bridgeport, CT and Fitchburg, MA. 

In 1966, Sr. Regina took an LPN course from Bullard Haven Vocational Technical School in Bridgeport, CT. and from 1967 to 1979, she served as a nurse in Putnam, CT, Providence, RI, Danielson, and Mansfield, CT.  She retired from nursing in 1979 and did gardening at the Provincial House thereafter until 1998.

Survivors include two sisters, Bella Pavlak of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Sr. Irene Fortier, DHS, of Brooklyn, CT; one brother, Henry of Waterbury, CT; and several nieces & nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

 Calling hours at Holy Spirit Provincial House will be on Monday, October 26 from 6-8 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Holy Spirit Provincial House Chapel, 72 Church Street, Putnam, CT followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Putnam, CT.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT  06260

 Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT has been entrusted with arrangements.
