Putnam, Ct – Sr. Mary Teresa Osga, DHS, 86, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit died on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, CT. She had been a resident at the Holy Spirit Health Care Center in Putnam since 2005.

Sr. Mary Teresa was born on July 17, 1920 in Jewett City, CT, the daughter of the late Vincent and Catherine (Jasion) Osga. She entered religious life in 1936 and made her religious profession on August 23, 1939 at the Motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France. She was then known as Sr. Agnes Marcelle.

A graduate of Diocesan Sisters College, Woodstock, CT, Sr. Mary Teresa earned her M.A. in Education from Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT. Her first teaching assignment was at St. Padarn in Aberystwyth, Wales. Upon her return to the United States in 1946 she spent most of her life as a teacher. Teaching assignments include St. Joseph, Waterbury, CT; St. Mary, Jewett City, CT; St. Mary, Putnam, CT; Notre Dame, Pittsfield, MA; Holy Family, Fairfield, CT; Holy Ghost Academy, Tupper Lake, NY; Immaculate Conception, Fitchburg, MA; St. John, Plainfield, CT and St. Anne, Waterbury, CT where she served as Principal.

Survivors include one sister, Margaret Chominski of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, several nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours at the Holy Spirit Provincial House chapel will be on Monday, September 25, from 2 – 4 and 7-9 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 26 at 11 AM at the Provincial House Chapel followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam, CT.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT 06260. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT is in charge of arrangements.
