Thibodeau, Sr Marguerite web picSr. Marguerite Thibodeau, DHS, age 87,  a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on

Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam, CT. where she had been a resident since 2004.         .

Born on October 5, 1919 in Big River, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of late Phillipe and Louise (Larose) Thibodeau, Sr. Marguerite entered religious life in 1937 and made her religious profession at the Motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France on April 5, 1941.  She was then known as Sr. Louise Phillipe.  While in France her first assignment was at Ker Anna in Auray, France and in 1942 she was an internee in Vittel, France during the World War II.

Upon her return to the United States in 1944 she taught at St. Sylvester School in Graniteville, VT and St. Mary’s School, Putnam, CT. She then studied at St. Joseph Hospital, Yonkers, NY and received an LPN certificate.  In 1953, Sr. Marguerite served in a nursing capacity at St. Joseph Villa, Putnam, CT. Later she served as a visiting nurse in Pawtucket, RI and in Bridgeport, CT. In 1959, she was assigned as a nurse at Holy Ghost Convalescent Hospital in Uncasville, CT and from 1974-1993 she cared for patients at St. Clare Home in Newport, RI. until her retirement.

Survivors include two sisters—Mrs. Isabelle Ricard of Storrs, CT and Sr. Gertrude Marie Thibodeau, MNDA of Lenoxville, P.Q. Canada and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours at the Provincial House chapel will be on Friday October 27, 2006,  from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on   Saturday at 12:00 Noon followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Putnam, CT

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT 06260.

Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT is in charge of arrangements.
