Poulin, Sr Joseph Celine web PhotoSr. Joseph Celine Poulin, DHS, age 88, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on Monday, February 20 at the Holy Spirit Health Care Center, Putnam, CT. She had been a resident there since 2000. Born on April 18, 1917, in St. Ephrem de Beauce, P.Q. Canada, she was the daughter of Josephat and Albina (Goulet) Poulin. Sr. Joseph entered religious life in 1933 and made her religious profession on September 3, 1936 at the Motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France. Her first assignments were in a nursery at St. Albans, in Pontypool and at Holy Ghost in Bedford, both in England.  Upon her return to the United States in 1939, she was assigned to St. Mary’s, Putnam, CT.  Other teaching assignments included St. Anne’s and St. Joseph’s, Waterbury, CT.  After serving as Mistress of Boarders at Putnam Catholic Academy, Sister went to California where she served as Principal of Our Lady of Grace School in West Sacramento, St. Rita’s in Fairfax and St. Paul of the Shipwreck in San Francisco.  She retired at Holy Spirit Health Care Center in 2000 after serving as Assistant Coordinator there since 1993. Survivors include two sisters, Marie Marthe Poulin of Rocky Hill, CT and Sr. Claire Roland, DHS, of Hartford, CT; several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Calling hours at the Provincial House chapel will be on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, February 23 at 2:00 PM at the Provincial House chapel followed by burial at St. Mary’s cemetery, Putnam, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT 06260. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT is in charge of arrangements.
