Sr. Jennie Dellanno, DHS, age 91, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on Friday, June 22, 2007 at the Holy Spirit Health Care Center, where she had been in residence since 1998.

Born on September 11, 1915, in Waterbury, CT, Sr. Jennie was the daughter of the late Paul and Rosina (Esposito) Dellanno.  She entered religious life in 1933 and made her religious profession on September 3, 1936 at the Motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France.  She was then known as Sr. Rose de St. Paul.

Sr. Jennie taught most of her religious life after having studied at both Diocesan Sisters’ College and at Annhurst College in South Woodstock, CT.  Her teaching assignments began at St. Sylvester School, Graniteville, VT followed by Holy Ghost Academy, Tupper Lake, NY; St. Francis School, South Fitchburg, MA; Mt. Carmel School, Waterbury, CT; St. Anthony School, Bridgeport, CT; St. Anne School, Swanton, VT; Immaculate Conception, Fitchburg, MA, St. Joseph School and St. Anne School—both in Waterbury, CT; Berkeley Grammar School, Waterbury, CT.  From 1952 to 1998 Sr. Jennie visited the elderly shut-ins in both St. Margaret and St. Anne parishes in Waterbury, CT.  She retired to Holy Spirit Health Care Center in Putnam, CT in 1998.

Survivors include one sister, Anne Itri of Waterbury, CT and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours at the Provincial House chapel will be on Monday, June 25, 2007 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM.   A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 26th at 11:00 AM followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Putnam, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT 06260.  Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT is in charge of arrangements.
