Sr. Jeannette Bérubé, DHS, 89, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on Saturday,

 March 1, 2008 at the Holy Spirit Health Care Center where she has been a resident since May of 2006.

Born on July 17, 1918 in Hartford, CT, the daughter of the late Thomas and Philomène (Bélanger) Bérubé. Sr. Jeannette entered religious life in 1936 and made her religious profession at the Motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France on August 23, 1940.  She was then known as Sr. Claire Philomène.

Sr. Jeannette remained in France after her profession and became a music and English teacher at Pré St.Gervais, France.  From 1942-44 she was an internee at Vittel, France during World War II.

Upon her return to the United States, Sr. Jeannette was assigned the following teaching assignments:  St. Cecilia School, Leominster, MA; St. John School, Plainfield, CT; St. Joseph School, Waterbury, CT; St. Anne Academy, Swanton, VT; St. Bernard High School, New London, CT; Marin Catholic High School, Kentfield, CA; St. Louis School, West Haven, CT.  From 1972 to 1980, Sr. Jeannette directed the language lab at the InternationalSchool at AnnhurstCollege, South Woodstock, CT.  Her last assignment prior to retirement was as Provincial Archivist from 1980 to 2001.

A graduate of AnnhurstCollege, South Woodstock, CT with a B.A., Sr. Jeannette earned an M.A. from Catholic University of America, Washington, DC and a Masters in handwriting analysis from the International Graphoanalysis Society, Chicago, IL.

Survivors include one brother, Normand Bérubé, of Westbrook, CT and one sister, Sr. Doris Bérubé, DHS of Putnam, CT., as well as several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours at the Provincial House chapel will be on Tuesday, March 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, March 5 at 11:00 AM at the Provincial House chapel followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Putnam, CT

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT  06260.  Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT is in charge of arrangements.
