Sr. Emmanuel Alexandrinha Cabral

October 12, 1921 – February 23, 2009

Sr. Emmanuel Alexandrinha, 87, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on
Monday, February 23, 2009 at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was a resident of the Holy Spirit Provincial House where she had been in retirement since 2003.

Born on October 12, 1921 in Fall River, MA, the daughter of the late Manuel and Alexandrinha (Paiva) Cabral. Sr. Emmanuel entered religious life in 1953 and made profession on April 13, 1955 at Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam, CT

Sr. Emmanuel held a B.A. from Diocesan Sisters’ College and served as an educator for most of her religious life in various schools in Connecticut as well as Fall River, MA until 2002 when she retired to St. Clare Convent in Newport, RI.

Survivors include three sisters: Mary Souza and Noemia Ray of Somerset, MA as well as Dolores Souza of Fall River, MA. and one brother, Manuel Cabral, Jr. of Somerset and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours at the Provincial House will be on Wednesday, February 25 from 2-4 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 26 at 10 AM at the Holy Spirit Provincial House chapel followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Putnam, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT 06260. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT is in charge of arrangements.
