Sr. Claire Francis Pelletier, DHS

1913 – 2009

Putnam – Sr. Claire Francis Pelletier, 96, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 in the Holy Spirit Health Care Center where she had been in residence since 1995.

Sr. Claire Francis was born on February 22, 1913, in Fitchburg, MA, the daughter of the late Arsene and Loria (Dupuis) Pelletier.  In 1937, she entered religious life and made her religious profession on August 22, 1940 at the Motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France. 

After her profession, Sr. Claire served in France for two years during WWII.  From 1942-1944, she was an internee at Vittel, France.  Upon her return to the US, she taught briefly.  From 1946 to 1959, she served as Mistress of Boarders at Putnam Catholic Academy, Putnam, CT.  She was then assigned as Superior/Coordinator of Holy Ghost Convalescent Home in Uncasville, CT  and then, at St. Bernard, New London, CT and the Villa St. Joseph, Putnam, CT.  From 1971-1978, she was appointed Provincial Councilor.  Following this, she performed various community services in Massachusetts and Hartford, CT.  She retired to the Provincial House in 1995.  

Survivors include one brother, George Pelletier of Fitchburg, MA; one sister, Gloria Piccicuto of Leominster, MA; several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Sr. Claire’s family from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Thursday, November 5, 2009 with a prayer service at 7:15 pm in the Provincial House Chapel, 72 Church St., Putnam. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am Friday, November 6, 2009 in the Holy Spirit Provincial House Chapel, 72 Church Street, Putnam.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT  06260.
