May 21, 1921 – July 27, 2008

Sr. Claire Bouvier, DHS, 87, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on Sunday, July 27, 2008 in the Holy Spirit Provincial House where she had been in residence since 1999.

Born on May 21, 1921 in Pascoag, RI, the daughter of the late Antonio and Marie (Robert) Bouvier, Sr. Claire entered religious life in 1937 and made her religious profession in the Motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France on August 22, 1940.  She was then known as Sr. Lucille Joseph.

After her religious profession, Sr. Claire remained in France for a year and was an internee for two years in Vittel during World War II.  Upon her return to the U.S. in 1944, she served as a music teacher in various assignments in Connecticut and Massachusetts and later as Program Director of therapeutic and recreational activities for the elderly sisters at St. Joseph Villa and the Provincial House.  She retired in 1955 and thereafter did volunteer work.

Survivors include a brother, Robert Bouvier of West Hartford, CT; two sisters, Marie Blanche Hare of Manchester, CT., and Lucille Kelly of Ft.Pierce, FL.; several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours in the Provincial House Chapel, 72 Church Street, Putnam, Ct. will be on Tuesday, July 29, from 5:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. with a Prayer Service at 7:15 pm.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at St.MaryCemetery, Putnam, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT06260.  Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT is in charge of arrangements.
