Sr. Agnes Elizabeth Prill, DHS, 96, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit died on Tuesday, January 3 at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, CT. She had been in retirement at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam since 2002.

Sr. Agnes was born on April 17, 1909 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Paul and Agnes (Splittstosher) Prill.  In 1928, Sr. Agnes entered religious life and made her religious profession on August 21, 1930 at the Motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France.

A graduate of Sisters’ College, Providence, RI, Sr. Agnes earned her Master of Arts degree from Boston College, Boston, MA.  She was an educator during most of her religious life.  Teaching assignments were at St. Anne, Hartford, CT; All Hallows, Moosup, CT; Putnam Catholic Academy, Putnam, CT.  In 1954, Sr. Agnes was appointed diocesan supervisor of schools for the Diocese of Norwich.

After serving as Provincial Councilor from 1964 to 1970, Sr. Agnes became principal of St. Mary School in Putnam, CT until 1974.  From 1974 until 1985, she performed various domestic services at St. Brendan and St. Joseph Guest House, both in New Haven, CT.  Sr. Agnes went into semi-retirement at Anawim Community, Waterbury, CT and tutored students until her full retirement in 1989.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours at the Holy Spirit Provincial House chapel will be on Thursday, January 5,2005, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM.   A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, January 6 at the Provincial House Chapel followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT  06260.  Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT is in charge of arrangements.
