Born and raised in Mechanicsville, my family moved after the Uncas fire when I was 14. Last October, Jane Elison arranged a visit with Roger and Helen for my wife and me. 64 years since our move. Being with Roger for 10 seconds rekindled my memories of Mechanicsville. Roger had so many tales to tell, including some precious memories he had of my mother. What a kind, congenial, and genuine man. He welcomed us with such enthusiasm and as we left, Jane told us that he cried. His pride in being one of the longest residents of Mechanicsville was obvious. What a loss for his community that he loved so very much. We’re so thankful to have had that visit with him and Helen. God bless Helen, Roger’s children, and may his memory be honored forever in Mechanicsville.

Mr. Champoux was a custodian at Tourtellotte when I was a student there. During my Senior year (1975), we had many late night Yearbook Committee meetings and we frequently ordered pizza. We always made sure to save some pizza for Mr. Champoux, our favorite custodian. Fast forward to 2018 – Mr. Champoux stopped by my office to tell me that he still remembered our thoughtfulness in sharing our pizza and how much he it meant to him. 43 years later and he still remembered! Little did he realize how much it meant to me that he went out of his way to tell me that… Rest peacefully Mr. Champoux…
