
Quinebaug – Robert R. Ide, 77, of Quinebaug Road, died October 5, 2006, in Meridan, CT. He was the loving husband of Dolores (Charland) Ide. Born in Danielson, CT, he was the son of the late Russell Abner & Laura (Burgess) Ide. He lived in East Hampton for 40 years before moving to Quinebaug 11 years ago.
Mr. Ide was a driver for Pratt & Whitney for 25 years, retiring in 1993. While working there, he served as the Union Stewart and as a member of the company’s United Way Committee. He was a Korean War Army veteran. In East Hampton, he was a foster father to many foster children, a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 47, a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6190, and a Little League manager. He was a “jack of all trades” and loved to tinker and work on cars.
In addition to his wife, Robert leaves a son, Kevin J. Ide of Dayville; a brother, Harold Ide of Coppers Cove, TX; his sister, Elanor Anderson of Brooklyn, CT; five grandchildren, Jason Robert Chapman, Kayla June Ide, Madalyn Kirbee Ide, Faith Nicole Ide, and Gordon Lawrence Ide. He was the brother of the late George Gay and Helen Bral.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Robert’s funeral Mass on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at 10:00 am in Saint Stephen’s Church, Quinebaug. Burial with Military Honors will be in West Thompson Cemetery. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Support Group of Northeast Connecticut, PO Box 674, Danielson, CT 06239. Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main Street, North Grosvenordale has been entrusted with the arrangements.
