In Memorial

1935 – 2012

Pomfret Center – Robert R. Trudeau, 77, of Orchard Hill Rd., died Saturday, June 16, 2012, in his home surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of the late Wanda (Stryczek) Trudeau. Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late Donat Trudeau and Dorothy (Chabot) Trudeau.

Mr. Trudeau worked at Electric Boat in Groton as a pipe fitter for twenty-three years, retiring in 1998. He also worked for Rogers Corp., National Chromium, Hale Manufacturing, and American Optical.

Bob was a big fan of the UCONN Huskies girl’s basketball team and enjoyed going to the games with his friend Ed Surdam any chance he could. He also enjoyed gardening, going to the beach, sitting in the sun, soaking up the rays, swimming, fishing with his son in-law Mickey, going for long walks with his dog while smoking his pipe as he loved animals, and reading many books.

Bob’s family meant everything to him. He is survived by his two daughters, Donna Wittenburg and her husband Mickey of Eastford, Cindy Surdam and her husband Chris of Pomfret Center, two sisters, Lorraine DeScisciolo of New York, and Anna Squillacote of Florida, two granddaughters, Ashley Whittenburg, and Christa Whittenburg, and one great-grandson Kaiden Lopez.

In addition to his wife, Bob is predeceased by his sister Priscilla Trudeau, and his twin sister, Sr. Jeanne Trudeau D.H.S.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family from 9:00 am to 11:00am on Friday, June 22, 2012 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, with a funeral service in the funeral home at 11:00am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Dayville. Memorial donations may be made to the Northeast District Dept. of Health, 69 South Main St, #4, Brooklyn, CT 06234, noting “FTF Heart Health Campaign/R. Trudeau” in the memo.
