
Robert P. Willis, Sr.
1931-2009
Eastford – Robert P. “Bob” Willis, Sr., 78 of Chaplin Road died Friday December 4, 2009 in Hartford. He was the loving husband of Eleanor (Goetschius) Willis. Born in Putnam, Ct, he was the son of the late George and Caroline (Trepal) Willis.
Mr. Willis was a 1949 graduate of Woodstock Academy and then served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated Willis Construction Company retiring in 1987. Bob enjoyed playing Poker and for 23 years met every Monday night to play with his friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Pomfret Rod and Gun Club. Active in his community, he served on the Eastford Board of Selectmen, Eastford Board of Education and the Eastford Inland and Wetlands Commission. With his background in construction, he assisted with two building additions to Eastford Elementary School and the building of the new Eastford Town Hall. He was a member of the Eastford Fire Company, Willimantic Elks Club and served on the Woodstock Academy Board of Trustees.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert P. Willis, Jr. and his wife Kristen, and Phillip Willis and his wife Stacey all of Eastford; his daughter, Caroline “Cally” Robbins and her husband Edward of Pomfret; a stepson, Joseph Salan and his wife Dawn of Hebron; three stepdaughters, Debra Burns and her husband Russell of Dallas, TX, Christine Raiola and her husband Fran of Willington, and Susan Lyman and her husband James of Columbia; fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late George Willis and Gladys Davis.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Monday December 7, 2009 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam with a Funeral Service at 7:00pm in the funeral home. Burial in Grove Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Woodstock Academy Endowment Fund, 57 Academy Rd. Woodstock, CT 06281.
