1921-2012
Putnam, CT – Robert Joseph “Pops” “Bob” Fontaine, 90, of Woodside St. died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday April 2, 2012. He was the loving husband of Pauline (Ziemski) McKissick Caron Fontaine. Born in Worcester, MA, he was the son of the late Leo and Marie (Thibodeau) Fontaine.
Bob worked for 2 years at Leo & Giffords machine shop making parts for the war, and then worked for 47 years at Linders Autoparts Recycle Center. He was a 32 year colon cancer Survivor. He donated his time to the NECT Relay For Life and for the last 5 years, he sold luminaries in the luminary booth. He enjoyed bowling, country music, square dancing, traveling, reading, cars, wood working, and yard work. Bob enjoyed the special time that his grandson Jim spent with him over the past few years. Jim was always there when he needed him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Raymond Fontaine and his wife Sheryl of Warwick, MA, Joan Dillon and her husband Mike of Lancaster, PA, Ruth Makowski of Leciester, MA, Sarah Millis of North Oxford, MA, Bradford Fontaine of Worcester, MA, and Marylou Ferrante and her husband Guy of Millbury, MA; his stepchildren, Linda Fitzgerald of Danielson, CT and Marion Appleton and her husband Chris of Thompson, CT; his brothers, Richard Fontaine of Woodstock, CT, Harold Fontaine of California; 24 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Fontaine and a stepson Dana “Woody” McKissick.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, Thursday April 5, 2012 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam with his Funeral Service in the funeral home at 3:30pm. Burial will be private.
