
Putnam – Richard Laurent Lafleur, 75, of Sunnyside Avenue, died at home on October 9, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. Born in North Grosvenordale, he was the son of the late Arthur and Albina (Dumas) Lafleur. He was the loving husband of Emily Sophie Mary (Mikat) Lafleur. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Richard was employed at Cluette and Peabody and Company and then at Belding Corticelli in North Grosvenordale for over 30 years. Richard served in the United States Coast Guard from 1950 to 1953. He was a communicant of St. Mary church of the visitation. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 67 and a third degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, St. Bernards Council. He was a lifetime and founding member of the Connecticut Trappers Association where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1985. He was also a member of the National Trappers Association. Richard’s love of the outdoors was only second to the love he had for his family. He shared his love of nature, including trapping, hunting, and fishing with his sons, daughters, and grandchildren. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons and two daughters, Susette Cote and her husband Roger of Concord, NH, Laurent Lafleur and his wife Katherine of Clarksville, MD, Phillip Lafleur and his wife Nicole of East Killingly, Leonard Lafleur and his wife Leigh of Putnam, Dennis Lafleur of Putnam, and Denise Wesolowski and her husband Timothy of North Grosvenordale; two brothers, Alvarez Lafleur of North Grosvenordale and Paul Lafleur of Fort Meyers, FL; four sisters, Cecile St. Germain of Brooklyn, Etoilla Morrisette of Plainfield, Lorraine Harakaly of Mansfield and Bernadette Lavallee of Waterloo, IA. and 15 grandchildren. He was predeceased by brother, Roland Lafleur, formerly of Southbridge, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Richard’s family Thursday, October 12, 2006 from 5 to 8 pm in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church Street, Putnam. A gathering will begin 9 am Friday morning at the funeral home with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam. Burial with military honors in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who prefer may make donations to St. Mary School, 23 Marshall St., Putnam, CT 06260.
