1936 – 2007

N. Grosvenordale – Richard J. Bergeron, Sr., 71, of Red Bridge Road, died Friday, May 25, 2007 at home.  He was the husband of Eva (Laurendeau) Bergeron for 51 years.  Born in N. Grosvenordale, he was the son of the late Wellez and Leda (Marcoux) Bergeron.

Mr. Bergeron worked as a plumber for the state of Connecticut working at the Mansfield Training School, Norwich State Hospital and eventually retiring from Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown.  He also worked for Cluett & Peabody in the weave shop, as a truck driver for Bunny Bread, and as a dresser for G. Thomas Co.

Richard was a man of many interests.  He enjoyed playing the organ, piano and accordion in the band “Temperance.” He spent his leisure time gardening, camping and playing pitch.  He was a past Grand Knight of the St.  Bernard Council 2087 Knights of Columbus in North Grosvenordale and a past Faithful Navigator of the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Jean C. Mathieu Fourth Degree Assembly 114 Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by two sons, Richard Bergeron Jr. of Lisbon NH, and Roger Bergeron of Thompson; three daughters, Rita D’Elia of Cookville TN, Ann Ricard of Thompson, and Theresa Bouten of Woodstock; his brother, Donat Bergeron of Dudley MA; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Richard’s family on Monday, May 28, 2007 from 6:00-8:00 pm, in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale CT.  A gathering will begin at 9:00 am on Tuesday, May 29th in the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
