
Fabyan, CT – Richard A. “Grandpop” Birch, 84 of Blash Road died peacefully at home Tuesday July 18, 2006. He was the loving husband of Marjorie (Mullen) Birch for 48 years. Born in Penns Grove, NJ, he was the son of the late Elmer &Viva (Whiten) Birch. He lived in Fabyan since 1973.
Mr. Birch was an electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 71for over 50 years. He was a WWII Army veteran serving in the Pearl Harbor invasion. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus St. Bernard Council. He loved gardening, hunting & fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 sons, Patrick Birch Sr. of Dayville, Joel Birch of Fabyan, & Richard Birch of Thompson; 2 daughters, Evelyn Jaskoviak of Brimfield, MA and Tammy Eddy of Thompson; 3sisters, Margaret Benoit of Southbridge, MA, Mary Harpham of Oregon and Janie Lamoureux of Sturbridge; 23 grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Michael & Joseph Birch.
Visiting Hours are Thursday from 5-8pm in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., North Grosvenordale. Relatives and friends are invited to a gathering at 9:00am Friday at the funeral home, with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in St. Joseph’s Church. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
