Rich was born in Hartford Ct. and grew up mostly in East Hartford. He was an Army veteran, and served in Bamberg Germany from 1965 to 1968. He was an avid fisherman and a lover of all things auto racing. He cared about the environment and was a big NY Yankees fan and a NY Giants fan. Rich leaves his brother Steve Champ and his sister in law Cheryl K Champ, and his brother Frank Champ, and his nephews Tyler, Zachary, and Mike Champ. Also a niece, Jennifer Champ. He was much loved and respected by his friends, and especially the family that were close to him and really knew him………..Think of a moment…….capture a recollection of a laugh, remember some help coming your way, recall some advice that did not seem meaningful until later, try and think of a full smile directed at only you, picture a fishing rod fully bent over in the setting sun, remember a seriously ice coated ride home late at night, try and feel the love coming from someone who did not get a lot of love to give……and had a hard time expressing it, remember the fierce independence, the basic competence, the Rock and Roll set on 11…….the loyalty to family…….and forget the shortcomings……see the best brother a brother can have……..Rich is gone. Funeral arrangements are private and are being handled by the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT For memorial guestbook visit www.GilmanAndValade.com.

Richie ,
A life time of memories never to be forgotten will always be with me. From
Tolland St. GTO’S , WHALERS ,Coventry Lake , Maine and all the great times shared. You were always a great friend a big brother in my youth and always there for the people who needed your help. So catch that big fish and play the music loud .

I remember it well-February of ’75-I had to abruptly leave home. Who but Rich would open his doors in such a time of need? That’s what friends are for. He would have done it for anybody.
I have such vivid wonderful memories with many great friends because of Rich-we all do. To us, he was a brother, a friend, a mentor. Rich taught me about cars, stereos, and great music. As Steve mentioned- “late nights on Volume 11, and icy rides home.” Only to come back and do it again….. and again. Rich was a pleasure to be around.
Richie: “Thank you for all the great memories. You are loved, and will be truly missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace our friend.”
Our deepest sympathy to the Champ Family-may your fondest memories bring you strength at this time of sorrow-ours will. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely, Janice Rataic and family

Frank I just came upon this. I was very sad to see your loss. Rich use to call me a bum and to get a job when i use to sneak in your back garage loaded with the best music I ever heard. He was so tough. He loved that GTO and kept it perfect. I realize this is so belated but I will never forget him. Hope you are well you were a great guy too.
