    Linda and family,

I’m so unbelievably sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. He will always be remembered as a kind soul with a devout commitment to the betterment of agriculture. It was a privilege to know and work with him over the years and he will be sorely missed. When I was last at the winery he showed me photos of you and him when you were dating, then when you were first married, then with young kiddos; I could tell his love for you was one to admire. I have no doubt the winery will live on in his memory.

Linda, Corey and Niki, I am so sorry to hear about Dick’s passing. We were just there in January to visit with you and him. Dick was a mentor to me and I considered him a friend. We spent a lot of time traveling together to the Dominican Republic when I worked him at Covidien. He hired me at JLL where we spent many weeks traveling from site to site performing Facility Condition Assessment, which lead him to developing PowerPM the Da Vinci winning optimization program. Everywhere we traveled Dick made friends and was able to communicate very technical ideas in the most concise easy to understand terms. It was a shock to travel to the winery to practice our Da Vinci presentation to find Dick had cut his ponytail off. I did not recognize him. He loved the winery and was always eager to take Kathleen and I on a tour of what new experiments he was working on. I know when we were traveling he spoke with love about both Niki and Corey. He was so proud of you and what you had accomplished. I will miss talking with Dick and especially working beside him in all things GxP. The lord will shine on Dick as he was a very good man.

My deepest sympathies to Dick’s family on his passing. I knew Dick in his work within Life Sciences at JLL. We met while involved in the start-up of the of one of the Life Science accounts and I came to think of Dick as a friend as we compared notes and strategized about the work. He was so knowledgeable about so many interesting things. I enjoyed hearing about his family and winery. Upon returning to Life Science after several years working in a different part of the firm, I was moved to tears to hear of his illness. Dick was such a decent human being, I know he will be missed tremendously.

    Dear Linda and Family:

I had the opportunity to know Dick for a very short time as a colleague at JLL. Not only did I immediately gain an immense respect for his level of knowledge and expertise, but we also shared a wide range of common interests and I found Dick’s sense of humor especially sharp. We shared many conversations about our mutual love of animals and wine (not necessarily in that order!!) and I always looked forward to traveling when my friend was going to be on the trip as well. I will miss him greatly and I extend my deepest condolences to you in this difficult time.

    God Bless,

Karen and I cannot really understand what you must be feeling for these past few days…losing a husband and a business partner and a friend. We know you, not as a long time friend but as a fellow business person trying to make a “go” of it in Woodstock.

We know that you must look forward and your daughter is there to be your support and now your business partner. We both wish you and your daughter, and all of the people who work for you the very best of good fortune in your new adventure as brewers and distillers here in the Quiet Corner. Be well.

Linda, Nikki, Ralph, Corey, and Fraser –

Dick was a man of immeasurable character and extraordinary kindness; generous with his brilliant mind, infectious laughter, and radiating smile…a man whose life will have lasting impact – not just in the way his vineyards changed country landscapes, but also in the way his quiet influence and inclusiveness changed countless lives. He had the unique gift of nurturing all living things to reach their fullest potential. Yet, for all of his accomplishments, it was most evident that his greatest pride and joy was in being your husband and father.

What a privilege to have shared a long, cherished friendship that began appropriately with a ’95 Cabernet and a chocolate mousse cake…and lovingly grew to be hallmarked by so many meaningful life celebrations.

In the days, months, and years ahead, look out often to the mighty Red Oak that majestically marks the winery. You’ll see him there, with a glass in hand, toasting your love and devotion as you take up the unwritten chapters of his life that he has left you to complete.

Celebrate his legacy comforted to know that countless beloved memories of him, like wine, will forever flow.

We are keeping all of you close at heart.

    Love, Linda, Laura & Helene
