Viens, Raymond web picPlainfield –Raymond Viens, 84, of Windsor Ave, formerly of Putnam and Lakeland, FL died December 15, 2006, at Village Manor. He was the husband of the late Georgette (Dumas) Viens.  Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late Joseph and Alphonsine (Bibeault) Viens.

Mr. Viens worked as a supervisor for Purizek Manufacturing and US Button. He also worked at the former Webster Shoe Company.  He was a WWII Army veteran.  He was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation and past president of their Holy Name Society.  He was a member of Cargill Council 64 and the Rt. Rev. Msgr Jean C. Mathieu Fourth Degree Assembly 114, Knights of Columbus serving on the Garde Fauche drill team.  He was a member of the Albert J. Breault VFW Post 1523. He enjoyed camping at Hopeville Pond for nearly 20 years and traveling between Florida and Connecticut for 17 years.

Raymond is survived by his two daughters, Phyllis Viens of Plainfield and Susanne Surprise of Pomfret Center; two sisters Doris Deslongchamps and Evelyn Mitchell both of Putnam; 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Raymond was predeceased by his brother Normand Viens and sister Anita Dumas.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Raymond’s family on Tuesday December 19, 2006, at 9:00 am in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church Street, Putnam, with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirt Secular Branch, 5 Third Street Ext., Plainfield, CT 06374
