1945 – 2020

Cape Coral – Paul R. Olmstead, 75, formerly of Putnam, CT, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his family at Lee Memorial Hospital on Thursday, October 1, 2020. He was the loving husband of 46 years to the love of his life, Connie (LaBonte) Olmstead. Born in Webster, MA., he was the son of the late Robert and Viola (Roberge) Olmstead.

Paul was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving four years of active duty and 16 years as a reservist. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Paul was employed as a machinist by the METSO Company of Worcester for 34 years.

Paul was a “Die Hard” Red Sox fan and an avid collector of shot glasses and beer steins.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife Connie; his daughter, Mary Olmstead of San Jacinto, CA.; his two brothers, Lucien Olmstead of Webster and Robert Olmstead of CA; his sister, Theresa Duby of Cape Coral, FL.; his brother-in-law, Gerald LaBonte of VA; two beautiful grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his son, Raymond Olmstead; his daughter, Christy Olmstead; and his brother, Norman Olmstead.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Paul’s family on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. in the Valade Funeral Home & Crematory, 23 Main St. North Grosvenordale, CT followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial  at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, CT. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all family and guests are required to adhere to social distancing guidelines and wear a face covering. We are so sorry to hear of Paul’s passing. He was such a wonderful man. I am so glad that I had the chance to visit with him again a few years ago at my Mom’s 80th birthday party. I know my Mom enjoyed all the visits with you both in Florida and Connecticut.
