1933 – 2019

Putnam – Norman D. Cote, Sr., 86, of Putnam Pike, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019 at Brookside Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Webster, MA. He was the loving husband of Janet (Gould) Cote. Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late Hector and Rossetta (Delodge) Cote.

Mr. Cote was a painting contractor. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, mountain biking, nature and loved to workout at the Iron Works Gym. He was known to be a people person, always wanting to make them feel good. He didn’t like seeing people in pain and would often put his hands on them and pray for them. He would commonly go out of his way to help a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his wife and children. He was a very giving gentle and kindhearted man who loved life. He enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley music. After a hard day’s work, they would go places and visit people. Dad loved seeing the world with his wife.

In addition to his wife Janet, Norman is survived by his sons, Norman Cote, Jr. of Putnam, David Cote and his wife Lori of E. Killingly, Roger Cote of Putnam, and Raymond Cote and his wife Chari of East Killingly; his daughter, Susan Cote of Dayville; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services have been omitted and arrangements have been entrusted to the Gilman Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Church St., Putnam. For memorial guestbook visit www.GilmanAndValade.com.

Condolence from Richard & Ellen Marie Provencher on September 6th, 2019 7:59 am

Our sincere condolences to Janet and Family. We are so saddened to learn of Norman’s passing. We have known Norman over 50 years, first as a customer of the family business, when Richard was just a kid. Norman was one of the most sincere genuine people we had the pleasure of knowing. Norman was always smiling; whenever you happened to meet up, he was genuinely delighted to see you, and when you parted ways, you were always smiling and your heart was a little lighter. Norman had a zest for life, a great sense of humor, a great work ethic and was just an overall wonderful human being. Rest in Peace Rockin’ Rod, you will be missed!

May our Heavenly Father, the God of all peace be with Normans Wife and all the Cote family during this time of loss.

Janet and family,
My heart is filled with sadness learning of Norman’s passing. I did not know him long, and only casually through our meetings at church suppers but he made a tremendous impression on me. He was the kind of man that made you want to sit down and have a conversation with him.
I remember the first time we actually got to chat and he took my hand and said “You know, you have a good heart. I can tell that about people”. Norman had a good heart and he will be missed.
My prayers for strength and comfort are with you all.
