1944 – 2013

N. Grosvenordale – Michael Lafontaine, 69, of Gaumond Rd., died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 unexpectedly but, peacefully in his sleep at home.  He was the loving husband of Marge (Grenier) Lafontaine.  Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late J. Arthur and Theresa E. (Myette) Lafontaine.

Mike was a graduate of St. JosephSchool in N. Grosvenordale, class of 1962 where he starred in basketball and also met the love of his life, Marge. They were united in marriage at St. JosephChurch in 1964.

Mr. Lafontaine worked as a correctional officer in Somers and Brooklyn, CT retiring in 1996. He was an energetic and generous man who enjoyed working out and giving back to his community.  As president of the Thompson Senior Society, he was very passionate and devoted to enhance the social life of his fellow seniors. Mike was also a 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus St. Bernard Council and a communicant of St. JosephChurch in N. Grosvenordale.

Mike is survived by his wife of 49 years Marge, his three sons, Dan Lafontaine and his wife Karen and Jim Lafontaine and his wife Cecilia both of N. Grosvenordale and Mark Lafontaine of Somers; a brother, Steven Lafontaine and his wife Kathy of N. Grosvenordale; a sister, Paula Walsh and her husband Peter of Brooklyn; two grandchildren, Tamara and Seth; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by three sons Michael, Thomas, and Martin Lafontaine.

Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to all and will be missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Michael’s family from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Sunday, September 15, 2013, in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale CT.  A gathering will begin at 9:00am on Monday, September 16, 2013 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. JosephChurch, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale.  Burial will follow in St. JosephCemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Michael’s memory may be made to the St. Joseph Food Pantry.  For memorial guestbook visit www.GilmanAndValade.com

    Mike was a Great friend and teacher when I started in corrections. Mike and his lovely wife Marge, along with my wife went to dinner a few times and they are a great memory for us. He was one of the hardest working men I have ever known and he had a Great sense of humor. He was a good soul. Marge you and the family will be in my prayers.     I worked with Michael for a number of years . . . and though I have not seen him in forever, I thought about him as recently as last week . . . strange.
