Dayville – May (Lucier) Simonzi-Kasek, 80, of Lens Ave., passed away at home on Thursday morning, April 26, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late William J. Simonzi, Jr. and George Kasek. May was born in Putnam and was the daughter to the late Alferie and Louise (Menard) Lucier.
May graduated from the Putnam Catholic Academy and Annherst College with honors, she then worked in the medical field for many years. At the age of 52, May made a career change and worked for CIGNA Corporation in Bloomfield until her retirement on May 31, 2002, from the Lincoln financial Group in Hartford. She retired as an Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Vice President.
May enjoyed her memberships with the Daughters of Isabella, Griffin Youth Hockey League, Greater Hartford Arts Council and The Good Sam Club, Laurel Mountain Camping Group, where she and her husband traveled around the country in their RV, visiting many memorable and fun-loving places. They especially enjoyed spending the winters in Florida with their friends. May enjoyed planning the camping trips with her many travel maps. May and her husband had the opportunity to travel to Germany, Switzerland, and Austria in 1985. She especially cherished the memories of the beautiful historical treasures and memorable sights while visiting with her son, Daniel who was stationed in Heidelberg.
May is survived by her sons, Daniel Simonzi of Westerly, RI, Kenneth Kasek and his companion Jennifer Kingsley of Scotland, Timothy Kasek and his wife Jennifer of South Windsor and Andrew Kasek and his wife Melissa of CA; her daughters, Christine Blaser of Woodstock, Lisa Surprenant and husband Robert of Danielson and Susan Jodoin and her husband Thomas of SC; thirteen grandchildren Jessica, Brandyn, Bethaney, Christopher, James, Hilary, Shawn, Stacy, Chelsea, Noah, William, Samuel and Jake; and five great-grandchildren Jack, Hudson, Robert, Caden and Graham. May was predeceased by her brother Roger Lucier and two sisters Lucille Plaga and Lucette Bernier.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with May’s family from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday April 29, 2018 in the Gilman Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Church St., Putnam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday April 30, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam, CT, meeting directly at church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
