Webster, MA – Maurice H. Smith, 76, formerly of North Grosvenordale, died Sunday July 13, 2008 in Webster Manor Nursing Home. He was the loving husband of Henriette P. (Demers) Smith for 19 years. Born in Thethford, VT, he was the son of the late Luther and Ellen (Baily) Smith.
Mr. Smith worked as a Fork Truck Operator for Shields Packaging in Oxford, MA. He was a member of the St. Bernard’s Council 2087 of the Knights of Columbus and the Thompson Senior Citizens Club. He enjoyed playing cards and making jigsaw puzzles. He found great pleasure in teasing, joking around, and making others laugh.
Maurice is survived by two sons, David Smith and his wife Kym, of Lebanon, NH, and Maurice Smith Jr. and his wife Diane, of Post Mills,VT; two daughters, Shelia Gillingham and her husband Charlie, of Canaan, NH, and Cathy Picken and her husband Steven, of Quincy, VT.; a stepson, Michael J. Gravel of Putnam; a stepdaughter, Debra Huber and her partner Tom Fern, of Putnam; 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Maurice’s family from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, July 16, 2008in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale CT. A gathering will begin at 9:00 am on Thursday July 17, 2008 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Joseph Church, 20 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. Burial at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery.
