Marguerite G. “Meg” Viens

1933 – 2009

Putnam – Marguerite G. Viens, 76, of Putnam, died at home on Sunday, November 29, 2009 with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of 54 years to Joseph R. Viens.   

Born in Brooklyn, CT, she was the only daughter of the late Emile and Marie Anne (Fournier) Guimont.

Growing up, Mrs. Viens she spent her summers in Quebec, Canada.  She attended the Putnam Catholic Academy and QVCC.  She was involved for many years in the 4-H program as a club leader, and received an award for her work as a leader.  She spent many years helping her children raise and show sheep and continued to raise sheep after the children had grown.  She adored animals of all kinds, but sheep were her favorite. 

Marguerite also ran a day care called New Beginnings.  “Mrs. V.” as the children called her, loved teaching and helping children and was devoted to all her “little ones,” following their achievements throughout the years. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Robert Viens of Putnam; her daughters, Celeste Frappier of Thompson, Collette Viens of Putnam, Marieanne Viens of Putnam, Melanie Rovero of Thompson; her grandchildren, Celina Viens, Aaron Dalpe, Dominic Rovero, Mitchell Viens-Cristofori, Cristiano Rovero, and Angelo Rovero.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial for Marguerite at 11:00 am on Monday, December 7, 2009 at Saint Mary Church of the Visitation.  Gilman Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Mary School, 23 Marshall Street, Putnam, CT  06260 or Saint Joseph School, 26 Main Street, North Grosvenordale, CT 06255.

    I’m sorry to hear about your loss… I’m been trying to rack down family members and yet I seem to come up empty handed.. If your related to Joseph Pasquel Viens, or Margraret Viens in Rhode Island please let me know .. my father is Arthur Rosaire Viens, but please dont hold that aginst me.. if you know him…he was born in 3-24-49….
