Marguerite Greene
1918- 2009
Dayville – Marguerite (Clarke) Greene, “Grandma Greene”, 91, of Robinwood Apartments Killingly Village, died Thursday, December 31, 2009, in Day Kimball Hospital. Born in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Pedro and Albertina (Leach) Clarke.
Mrs. Greene worked for 49 years in the packing department at William Pryms. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Dayville where she worked in the rectory as a housekeeper. She had also assisted at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in New London, and St. Sebastian in Middletown. Most recently known as “Grandma Greene”, she was a beloved volunteer grandmother at Killingly Central School. She loved gardening and blueberry picking, and the joy of sharing them with others. She collected frog figurines and the hearts of many children in her latter years.
Marguerite is survived by her son, Richard Watson, and his wife Janet of Woodstock Valley; her daughter, Evelyn Wade of Windham; a step-daughter, Barbara Davis of Dayville; a brother, Joseph Clarke of Brooklyn; three grandchildren, Justin Wade, Rosalyn Watson and Rhonda Wishart; several great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Pedro Clarke, Monroe Clarke, Mary Hutchins, Elizabeth Waller and Edna Watkins.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Marguerite’s family from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin at 9:30 am on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Dayville.
