1932 – 2014

Pomfret Center – Margaret G. Holland, 81, of Wrights Crossing, died Friday, May 9, 2014 at Matulaitis Nursing Home.  She is the loving wife of John E. Holland.  Born in Brooklyn, CT, she was the daughter of the late William and Antoinette (Fournier) Grenon.

In addition to her husband, Margaret is survived by her daughter, Nancy Mazzarella (Don) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Sean Mazzarella (Suzanne), and Gina Mazzarella-McNulty (Troy); great grandchildren, Taylor, Lexi, Nicholas, and Kylee; and brother, William Grenon of Leesburg, FL. She is predeceased by her sisters, Jacqueline Oatley and Theresa Johnson.

Mrs. Holland worked as a Postal Clerk at the East Killingly post office. She was a member of East Killingly Fire Dept. Women’s Auxiliary and the Wyndham Land Trust. Margaret served as Justice of the Peace for many years and as Assistant Registrar of voters in Killingly.  Margaret also worked for the UCONN athletic department event staff.  She loved animals and cared for many dogs and cats over the years.  She loved bluegrass music and traveled long distances to attend festivals. She was an avid basketball and soccer fan, and followed her grandchildren’s games.  She’ll be remembered as a caring, loving, gentle soul always ready to help others in their time of need.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret at 10:00 am, on Thursday, May 15, 2014 in St. James Church, 12 Franklin St., Danielson.  Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Hwy #100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. For memorial guestbook visit www.GilmanAndValade.com.

    I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Margaret was a truly sweet soul! She had a great smile and a twinkle in her eye! I loved working with her and to this day thinking of her brings a smile to my face. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

    we want to let my uncle john know how sorry we are for his loss and to let him know how much we loved aunt meg and what a wonderful, caring and smart women she was, some of my fondest memories were visiting them when they lived in east killingly and they ran the tree service and had gardens and flowers. she will be our angel from heaven looking over us.
