Marcia L. Duval

Published: January 11, 2016 38 Condolences

1963 – 2016

Danielson, CT – Marcia Lynn (Guatieri) Duval, 53, passed away on Tuesday, January 5th.   A beautiful and genuine soul, Marcia was a nurturing, compassionate, and loyal wife, mother, nonnagram, daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend.  She leaves her eternal soulmate, Emile J. Duval.  Born in Pawtucket, RI she was the daughter of the late Marius and Dolores (Welsh) Guatieri and the daughter-in-law of Theresa Duval and the late Eugene Duval.

“My family means everything to me. Loving them.  Nothing in my life has ever meant more to me than my family.  We made a beautiful life.  Our daughters are our joy.  We love them more than words can say.”  This fully embodied the devotion and passion she had for being a mother.

After raising her daughters, she went on to graduate from Brown University and furthered her education by earning her Master’s Degree in Education and Child and Family Studies at Wheelock College.

She was vibrant spirit whose purpose in life was guiding and educating others. She had a contagious and goofy sense of humor, and was an inspiration to all those who met her.  She was a talented singer who loved music and dancing. She held the welfare of children close to her heart.

Marcia is survived by her three daughters Amanda Coutu, Samantha Duval, and Audra Duval; her son-in-law, Steven Coutu, whom she embraced as her own son; and her grandson, Caden Cavallaro, nonnagram’s “sweet boy”. She was the sister of Linda (Anthony) Cipriano, Marty Guatieri, Gail Guatieri, the late Loren Guatieri, Lucille (Kenneth) Wood, Jeanine (Timothy) Spikes, Marie Duval, Ann (Thomas) Marshall, and Denise Duval. She was the loving aunt to seventeen nieces and nephews and thirteen great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 16th at 11:30 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital-Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program at http://fundraise.childrenshospital.org/goto/marciaduval.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT. For memorial guestbook visit www.GilmanAndValade.com.

Love to Emile and the girls…
Through all the years I always remember when the kids were small. It was her birthday New Years Day yet selflessly on New Years Eve it was all about the kids with a party at Auntie Marcia’s house. At the strike of midnight it was time to conga. Always to Gloria Estefan. Here comes the line through every room led by Marcia with every kids hanging on. That song never played again after that without picturing Marcia laughing with her arms up in the air.
We may not understand why so young but we will meet up again one day in heaven
My love and prayers are with you all

Marcia was the best friend I have ever had. When we met we clicked and that was it. She enjoyed life thoroughly and loved to laugh. When I was feeling down, she knew how to make me smile, and funny, I could do the same for her: just two silly ladies being silly girls! I WILL MISS HER TERRIBLY, but never forget her. Our families and lives will forever be meshed together. I am so sorry, for our loss.

To the Duval family, We were saddened to hear of Marcias passing. We had the pleasure of having her be part of our theatre family at the little theater during our love song cabaret and Christmas cabaret. She had such a wonderful voice. She will be missed by her theatre family.

    January 11, 2016 at 11:03 pm

    Emile, Amanda, Samantha and Audra,
you were the light in Marcia’s life!

Our friendship ebbed in and out, and I’ve always
cherished and welcomed our times together. We
shared a deep passion for truth and integrity, which
brought on some very deep conversations. It was an
honor to have Marcia in my life and have her as a friend.

I loved her nerdy/goofy side, and I know that she always
wanted people to know how funny she was! She was
very humble in many respects and knew that her greatest
    accomplishment was you, her family.
(Although her degree from Brown was a close second!)

It is with regret I deliver this message in writing,
rather than in person with a comforting hug.
Sending you all love and light, Paula

So saddened by this news! I may not have met any of Marcia’s family, but through grad school and keeping in touch on Facebook from time to time, I knew that you were all her world! She would give her shirt off her back to anyone in need and her family always came first!! She was always willing to help anyone through any situation big or small. She loved her daughters and last we spoke she was getting ready to be a grandmother! She was so excited. The world will not be the same without her generosity.
