North Grosvenordale – Louis J. Mayo III, 73, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Providence, RI.  He was the beloved husband of Vivian (Bruneau) Mayo for 49 years.  He was born in Pomfret, the son of the late Louis J. Mayo, Jr. and Louise (Austin) Mayo.

Louis served with the U. S. Army in the Korean Conflict and was a Past Commander and Life Member of American Legion Post 67.  He was employed at Electric Boat Company for ten years until he founded Lou Mayo Plumbing and Heating which he managed for thirty-five years.  He served as Honorary Sheriff of Windham County, a Constable for Thompson, a volunteer for the Community Fire Department and as chairman of the Plumbers Union.  He was a coach for boy’s Little League and girl’s Softball League, and was a member of the Valley Springs Country Club. He was particularly known for his participation in the steak suppers at Post 67 with his “special steak sauce”.

Besides his wife, he leaves three loving children and their spouses, Tammy J. Chapdelaine and her husband David of North Grosvenordale, Louis J. Mayo IV, of North Grosvenordale, and Jason A. Mayo and his wife Denise of Jewett City; nine brothers and sisters, Ida Madeiras of Dudley, MA, Ethel Warren of Clearwater, FL, John Mayo of W. Glocester, RI, George and David Mayo of Pomfret, Peter Mayo of Linville, AL, Charles Mayo and Marie Ramsdell both of Putnam, and Shirley Miracle of Kissimee, FL; four grandchildren, namely Jessica Jellison of Pomfret, Karl Kuhn, Jr., and Jamie Cotnoir, both of Putnam, and Tyler Briere of Thompson;  five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was the brother of the late Eva Steele, Barbera Gullette, Jean Dennette, Dora Bachman, Jesse, Leonard and Paul Mayo A funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 am in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., North Grosvenordale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Joseph’s Church, 17 Main St., North Grosvenordale followed by burial in the parish cemetery.   Visiting Hours are Friday from 5-8 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Fire Department, PO Box 874, North Grosvenordale, CT 06255.
