Smithfield, RI and Grosvenordale, CT – Lorena (Montigny) Dumas, 93, formerly of Grosvenordale, died on September 11, 2009 at North Bay Manor in Smithfield, RI. She was the loving wife of the late Eugene Dumas. Born in Cumberland, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Melina (Piche) Montigny.

Mrs. Dumas owned and operated Dumas’ Decorating in Grosvenordale, CT, beginning the business in 1950 with 1 wallpaper book and 100 gallons of paint. She retired from Dumas’ in 1978, and spent many happy years traveling the country with friends.

Mrs. Dumas enjoyed reading, knitting, and Friday afternoon lunches with her friends. During her eighties she spent time helping “the old people in the neighborhood!” Lorena was devoted to her family above all else.

Lorena is survived by her son, Eugene Dumas of Thompson; her daughters, Mary Fazio of Bridgewater MA, and The Reverend Louise Dumas of Granby MA; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Christensen, who died in 1999.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Lorena’s family from 10:00 am to 10:45 am,
Friday, September 18, 2009 in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main Street, North
Grosvenordale, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saint Joseph
Church, 20 Main Street, North Grosvenordale. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph
Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Kitchen and Daily Bread c/o Putnam United Methodist Church, 53 Grove Street, Putnam, CT 06260
