Putnam – Leo H. LaPointe, 91, of Putnam, died Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare Center. Leo was born in Putnam, Connecticut and was the son of the late Arthur and Alice “LaRose” LaPointe.
Leo served as a Merchant Marine and then with the United States Army where he proudly served during World War II. After his discharge from the Army, Leo was employed as a textile worker working for Belding Corticelli Thread Company and Putnam Hertzl Finishing Company located in Putnam, Connecticut.
Leo earned his Bachelor’s degree and greatly enjoyed the act of learning while he continued his education by taking numerous on-line college courses. He also enjoyed taking long walks through the town of Putnam.
Leo is survived by his sister, Jeannette Columbia of Putnam; nephew, Richard Columbia and his wife Linda of Putnam; grandnephew, Nicolas Columbia and his wife Crystal; grand-niece, Michelle Smith and her husband Brad of Putnam; three great great-nieces; and two great great-nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial for Leo celebrated by Fr. Larry LaPointe on Friday June 2, 2017 at 10:30 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam, CT. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
