Woodstock Valley – Lawrence Frank Sommer, 75 Years, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 11, 2021, in Westview Health Care & Rehab Center, Dayville, CT. He was the partner and lifelong friend of Carol Peters. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Larry was the son of the late David and Pearl (Bell) Sommer. He was a member of Congregation B’nai Shalom Synagogue, Putnam.
Larry graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT and received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Liberal Arts, Major: Sociology from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Larry was an exceptional salesman. In his career, he traveled extensively throughout New England as a regional sales manager for Lender’s Bagels and later owned his own food brokerage company, Purveyor’s.
Larry enjoyed being active and was an avid swimmer, even in his later years. He enjoyed kayaking and also listening to the blues and oldies music. He also enjoyed playing pinball and regularly played the machine on his porch.
In addition to his partner Carol, Larry is survived by his son, Michel Sommer; two daughters, Corinne Sommer, and Michelle Sommer; his sister, Lois (Ed) Goglia; six grandchildren; two nephews; and two cousins.
Private services for Larry will be held in Spring. Cremation has been entrusted to The Gilman Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Church St, Putnam, CT. Memorial donations in Larry’s name may be made to QVCC Foundation, Sommer Family Fund.
