Dayville, CT & Jupiter, FL – Kathleen Louise (Rice) Gerardi, 73, died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 2, 2016 in Jupiter, Fl. Born on May 19, 1942 in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Herbert C. and Ethel A. Rice. She will be missed by her beloved husband of 54 years, Michael J. Kathy enjoyed reading, Bible studies, quilting, sewing, digging in the garden, and creating in the kitchen. She was an active member of the Catholic parishes of St. Peter in Jupiter, FL and St. Joseph in Dayville, CT. Her eyes were always open to the beauty of nature and to the value of every precious person she met.

In addition to her husband Mike, she is survived by her children, Michele Fall and her husband Michael of Suffield, CT, Mark Gerardi and his wife Suzanne of Nantucket, MA, and Amy Reutter and her husband Brook of Tulsa, OK; her brothers, Michael Rice and his wife Carol of Mansfield, CT, and Colin Rice and his wife Loretta of Lebanon, CT; her sisters, Sheryl Leone and her husband Tony of Southington, CT, Corrine Bock and her husband Larry of Vernon, CT and Robin Rice-Nardi and her husband Jack of Mansfield Center, CT; her nine grandchildren, Jessica, Nathan and Sarah Fall, Evan, Sophie and Hannah Gerardi, and Jordan, Kara and Emily Reutter; and many brother and sister-in-laws; nieces and nephews.

Condolence from Linda Colangelo on April 11th, 2016 10:35 am

My first job out of high school was as a copywriter for WINY Radio. I worked side by side with Kathy for many years, where she served as my mentor, sounding board and friend. Kathy’s strong and unwavering faith helped me as an adult to find and establish a foundational relationship with God. I will forever be grateful for the profound influence she had in my life. My thoughts and prayers are with Mike, her children, and the extended circle of family and friends who knew and loved Kathy…and in return, were privileged to have been loved by such a special woman.

Condolence from Dee Carnahan on April 11th, 2016 12:37 pm

To the Gerardi family. I got to know Kathy in the last year or so while going to Newton, MA for a Women’s monthly Morning of Recollection. She always exuded such class, dignity, and a love of God that was something to be emulated. I wish I could have known her longer than this, but I know where she is right now — in heaven with God, who she loved so much. It is truly a great loss, but I know she is praying for her family and friends, who will miss her so much. God bless you! Sincerely, Dee Carnahan

Condolence from Tricia White on April 14th, 2016 10:28 am

We cannot express the sorrow we feel for your family’s loss and want to send our sincere condolences. We understand… I lost mom in December. Our hope is to bring you comfort!

Jesus Christ promised. “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out ” (John 5: 28, 29)

Revelation 21:4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

“No resident will say I am sick.”
“At that time the eyes of the blind ones will be opened and the very ears of the deaf ones will be unstopped. At that time the lame one will climb up just as a stag does, and the tongue of the speechless one will cry out in gladness.”
(Isaiah 33:24 and 35:5, 6.)

It helps me to think of the day when there will no longer be obituary columns to bring sadness, instead there may be just the opposite, announcements of newly resurrected ones… and we can welcome them back with open arms!

No matter how great the promises are, we still miss them. I miss my mom terribly every day! My husband and I were given a audio link of others who coped with the loss of a loved one and it was wonderful to receive. I’m including it for you…
