1937 – 2014

Putnam – John M. Nimchek, 76, of Ballou St., died Sunday, January 19, 2014 in Day Kimball Hospital.  He is the loving husband of Mae (Kelaita) Nimchek.  He was the son of the late Michael and Olga (Semanitzky) Nimchek.

Before moving to the Putnam area in 2001, he was raised, lived, and worked in the Terryville/Bristol area.  He was an extreme fan of the UCONN Men’s and Women’s basketball teams, and enjoyed watching all sports.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughters, Kim Griffin and her husband Edward of Cambridge, NY and Dawn Condon and her husband Tony of Queensbury, NY; brother, Paul Nimchek and his wife Patricia of Torrington, CT; sisters, Mary Plant of Ransomville, NY and Ollie Picard and her husband Denis of Kensington, CT; grandchildren, Brittany, Lauren, John, Jessica, Laurie and Julia; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.  Niece Maria Watson of Thompson has been especially close with John and Mae.   John is predeceased by his son, John Nimchek, and brother, Michael Nimchek and his wife Patricia.

A memorial service will be held for John at 5:30 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Saints Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church, 34 Fairview Ave, Terryville, CT 06786. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St. Putnam, CT.
