N. Grosvenordale – Joan I. Rumrill, 85, of Riverside Dr., died Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at home. She was the loving wife of the late Rayford “Smokey” Rumrill. Born in Berwick, ME, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Cecile (Provencher) Ames. On April 14, 1956, in Billerica, MA she was united in marriage to Rayford Rumrill who predeceased her on May 20, 2003.
Mrs. Rumrill worked as a stitcher for 28 years at Bates Shoe followed by an additional three years at B&W Footwear both of Webster, MA. Joan was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Grosvenordale and enjoyed building puzzles with her family and friends. But, above all her life was centered around her family, especially her grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her companion of fourteen years, Walter “Lefte” Jones of N. Grosvenordale; her two sons, Ronald Rumrill and his wife Donna of N. Grosvenordale, and Kevin Rumrill and his wife Renee of Woodstock; her daughter, Joyce Hebert and her husband Treffley of Central Village; two brothers, Richard Ames of Dennison, TX, and Leonard Ames of Putnam; two sisters, Shirley Demers of Quinebaug, and Loretta Baker of NH; nine grandchildren, Trista, Timothy, Kayla, Anthony, Les, Mike, Sandy, Andrea, and Marissa; twelve great-grandchildren, Lelani, Brianna, Savannah, Dakota, Emma, Madeline, Cadence, Aria, Greyson, Cody, Annabelle and Jonathan; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service on Monday, August 2, 2021, in West Thompson Cemetery, 289 Riverside Dr., Thompson, CT at 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Hospice of Northeast CT, P.O.
