1922 – 2008

Putnam – Jeannette Lorraine (Berube) Hayes died March 2, 2008.  She was born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada on August 23, 1922.  She was the daughter of Jean Baptiste Berube and Marie Cecile (Plourde) and grew up in Framingham, MA.  She was the beloved wife of the late Corporal Clifford Charles Hayes, WW2 Veteran, whom she married on May 28, 1949.  They resided in East Putnam.

Slaw, Gary and Ellen Hayes of Thompson, seven (7) grandchildren: Gary Cutler of Seattle, WA; Crystal Etheridge of Danielson; Shawn Cutler and his wife, Heather of Uxbridge, MA; Todd Hayes of Putnam; Brad Hayes of Putnam; Angel Cosme and his wife Madeline of Norwalk, CT; and Maria Cosme of Danielson.  She also leaves four (4) great grandsons and many loved nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a brother, Henry (Hank) Berube.

Janet worked at American Optical and Putnam Finishing as a switchboard operator.  She then became a real estate broker for United Farm Agency for 21 years.  She was a member of the Christian Women’s Club, Mantup Home Economics Club, and the VFW Auxiliary Post 1523.  She loved the ocean, and enjoyed spending quality time with her family.  She was a lovely woman with a beautiful spirit, who gave so much of herself to everyone that knew her.

“I didn’t come here to get into the Olympics, I came here to rest.”  You are now at rest.  You will be missed.  We love you, love you.

A gathering will begin at 9:30 am on Friday, March 7, 2008 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam.  Burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Northeastern Connecticut, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
