Putnam – James J. Saitas, 92, of Church St., died Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Westview Healthcare. Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late John and Efthalia (Siros) Saitas, the former owners of the Olympia Diner & Spa in Putnam.

James was a graduate of Putnam High School class of 1948, Becker College class of 1950, after which he enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he attended and graduated from Clark University class of 1957.

He worked for many years as an insurance underwriter. James was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Danielson.

He is survived by his nephews, Andrew Saitas of Plainville, MA, Stephen Saitas of NY, and Michael Saitas of North Attleboro, MA. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Alexander Saitas.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with James’ family from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 80 Water St., Danielson, CT 06239, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m.. Burial in Grove Street Cemetery will take place in the Spring. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Gilman Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Church St., Putnam. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cemetery, P.O. Box 236, Danielson, CT 06239. For memorial guestbook visit www.GilmanAndValade.com.

    Jimmy was our neighbor on Church st, he was a caring man and so friendly, he always checked in on my mom after my dad passed, remember him taking his daily walks.
