N. Grosvenordale – J. Paul Joyal, 80, of Ravenelle Rd., died Thursday, October 27, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Betty (LaPointe) Joyal. In January, they would have celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Born in Burlington, VT, he was the son of the late Hilaire and Blanche (Rousseau) Joyal.
Mr. Joyal worked as a mason for the University of Connecticut and worked many years for his brother, Leo Joyal Masonry. He was a member of the West Thompson Fire Department for over 50 years serving as their Chief for 15 years. Paul enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, was a major race fan, and enjoyed country music.
In addition to his wife Betty, Paul is survived by his daughters, Sue Genest of Woodstock, Debbie Cyr and her husband Rick of Thompson; his brother, Leo Joyal and his wife Melissa of Pomfret; his sisters, Theresa Guertin of Putnam, Cecile Bellerive of Putnam, Lucille Farrell and her husband Robert of Danielson, and Rachel Ladyka and her husband Joel of N. Grosvenordale; his grandchildren, Amy Genest, Ryan Genest, Craig Cyr, and Jason Cyr; his great granddaughter, Alyssa; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, the late Willie Joyal, and his sister, the late Joan Martel.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Paul’s family from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, CT. A gathering will begin in the funeral home at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Day Kimball Healthcare Oncology Department or to Hospice of Northeast Connecticut.
