Thompson – Irene B. (Sterczala) Cournoyer, 74, of Wrightson Drive, died Wednesday January 16, 2008 after injuries sustained in an automobile accident on December 17th. She was the loving wife of Paul C. Cournoyer for 49 years. Born in Webster MA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Michalina (Tokarz) Sterczala.
Mrs. Cournoyer worked as an administrative assistant for the Financial Aid Office at Assumption College from 1989-97. She also worked as a Title One instructional assistant for the Webster Public School Department, and a payroll secretary for American Optical.
Mrs. Cournoyer was devoted to her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
In addition to her husband, Irene is survived by her daughter, Michelle Hooper and her husband Dwayne of Thompson; two sons, Paul Cournoyer and his wife Lisa of Putnam, and Chester Sterczala and his wife Mona of Oxford MA; a brother, Joseph Sterczala of Webster; a sister, Theresa Bishop of Pascoag RI; and her beloved grandchildren, Cameron Hooper, Jon-Luc Cournoyer, Garrett Hooper and Sydney Cournoyer.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Irene’s family at 9:00 am Tuesday, January 22, 2008 in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00am in St. Joseph Church, 20 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery, Webster MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
