1925 – 2017
Thompson – Gerald T. Wilga, 92, of Quaddick Town Farm Rd., died Monday morning, June 19, 2017 at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Sophie (Silvestri) Wilga. Born in Webster, MA, he was the son of the late Stanley and Eva (Budrow) Wilga.
Mr. Wilga was a graduate of Bartlett High School and was a United States World War II veteran serving with the United States Coast Guard being honorably discharged on September 16, 1943. He worked for over 35 years as a mechanic at Massachusetts Electric.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #67 in North Grosvenordale, the Quinnetissett Golf Club, and the Raceway Golf Club both of Thompson. Gerald enjoyed traveling with his family up North and down to Cape Cod. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Gerald is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Paul Wilga, Robert “Tug” Wilga, Bernard Wilga, and Raymond Wilga.
The family would like to thank the dedicated workers from the Hospice of Northeast Connecticut for the care and respect that they had shown Gerald during his final days.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Gerald’s family from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017, in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. Followed by a service in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in North Grosvenordale with military honors.
