Putnam – Gerald E. Brownell, 73, of Heritage Rd., passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Hartford Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mae (Svendsen) Brownell. Born in Worcester, MA, he was the son of the late Gerald and Beatrice (Petralis) Brownell.
Mr. Brownell worked as a mechanic for Cargill Chevrolet and then for CL&P. He was a member of the American Legion and the Putnam Lodge of Elks #574 for 47 years and obtained the “Elk of the Year” award. He enjoyed golfing, was a home mechanic and built his own garage and home after his retirement. Gerald and his wife enjoyed spending their Summers on Quaddick Lake.
In addition to his wife, Gerald is survived by his son, Thomas S. Brownell and his wife Theresa of Colchester; and his grandchildren, Samuel Brownell and Madelynne Brownell, both of Colchester. He was predeceased by his son, the late Steven M. Brownell and his sister, Barbara Lee Brownell.
Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service at 11:00a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 at St. John Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St, Worcester, MA. Memorial donations may be made to the Putnam Lodge of Elks, 64 Edmond St, Putnam, CT 06260. For memorial guestbook visit www.GilmanAndValade.com.
