Chrzanowski, Genevieve-web photoNorth Grosvenordale, Ct – Genevieve Dolores (Ponichtera) Chrzanowski, age 90, passed away Friday, December 1, 2006, in a local nursing home. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Matthew D. Chrzanowski of North Grosvenordale.

Born in South Wareham, MA, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Julie (Lojek) Ponichtera.  She moved as a child to New Bedford, MA where she attended school and grew up.  She married Matthew in 1937, worked as a stitcher in a local textile industry, and raised their family while he was in the Navy.  In 1989, they moved to North Grosvenordale to be closer to their children, and became a parishioners of Saint Joseph’s Church.  She loved to garden.

Besides her husband Matthew, Genevieve is survived by her two sons, Ronald P. Chrzanowski and his wife Anne, and Thomas M. Chrzanowski and his wife Therese, all of North Grosvenordale; her brother, Edward Ponichtera of New Bedford, MA; her sister, Stasia Gatonska of Needham, MA; and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Ponichtera of New Bedford, MA. She also leaves five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.  Genevieve was predeceased by two brothers, Stephen and Joseph Ponichtera.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Genevieve’s family on Thursday, December 7, 2006, beginning at 9:00 am. in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main Street, North Grosvenordale, CT with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am in St. Joseph Church, 20 Main Street, North Grosvenordale. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Joseph’s Food Bank, PO Box 897, North Grosvenordale, CT 06260.
