
Brooklyn – Faith (Decker) Rafferty, 98, of Canterbury Road, formerly of Grand View, Putnam, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home where she received compassionate care. She was the wife of the late William J.F. Rafferty. Born in North Attleboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. & Elizabeth (Hunt) Decker.
Mrs. Rafferty was a graduate of the Lincoln School in Providence and of the Mount Vernon Seminary at George Washington University. During WWII, she knitted scarves for the soldiers. She was a member of the Day Kimball Hospital Women’s Board and ran the volunteer program at the hospital gift shop for several years. She loved the opera, and reading. She played the piano, and was an avid fan of Tiger Woods and of the Boston Red Sox. She spoke French fluently. Faith loved the ocean, flowers and birds and spending time at her house at the seashore.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Patricia DeWolf and her husband Fred of Westerly, RI; four grandchildren, Brian Rafferty and his wife Erin of Shelton, CT, Andrea D. Rafferty and her husband Enrique of W. Hartford, CT, Timothy Rafferty and his wife Sharon of Beacon Falls, CT and Julia Gagnier and her husband Kirk of Loudonville, NY., and a daughter-in-law, Carol Rafferty of Taos, NM. ; two cousins, Nancy Ebbs of Thompson, CT and Malcolm Decker of Charlestown, RI, nine great grand-children and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son William, daughter-in-law, Brenda, sister, Elizabeth, and brother Frank.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Faith’s family on Saturday, October 14, 2006, beginning at 11:30am in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St, Putnam. Funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 pm in Saint Mary Church of the Visitation, Providence St, Putnam. Burial in Saint Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the American Cancer Society, 235 West Town St, Norwich, CT 06360.
