Danielson– Evelyn Josephine (Travenick) Nieminen, 101, of Danielson, passed away peacefully Monday, August 16, 2021, in Davis Place. She was the loving wife of the late Reino Nieminen, whom she married May 17, 1947 at Saint James Church in Danielson. Born in Union, CT, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Julia Travenick.
She graduated high school in Killingly, CT and her life’s work was helping people. This amazing lady always put other people first. At the nursing home, she would sit with other residents facing death and comfort them. Evelyn lived most of her adult life in Thompson, Ct.
Some of the things she enjoyed were: donuts, brown-eyed Susans, the birds outside her window, shrimp, liverwurst sandwiches, beer, chocolate, fishing, frogging, dancing, joking around, and playing cards, and bingo.
She was a great lady and a delight to all who knew her. Her advice for having a long life was to always be kind and have a positive attitude.
She is survived by her grandson, Jacob Nieminen of Punta Gorda, FL; nieces Dorothy Bressette of Eastford, Ct, Marian Slye of South Windsor, CT, and Barbara Urban of Canton, CT; nephew Charles Stahl of Windham, Ct; many great-nieces and nephews; dear friends Betty and Pete Aucoin of Putnam, CT and many, many more wonderful friends!
She was predeceased by her husband, Reino Nieminen; her son, Frank Nieminen; her daughter-in-law, Susan (Aucoin) Nieminen; and her sister, Amelia.
Evelyn’s family would like to thank all of the people at Davis Place for the kind and compassionate care that they gave to Evelyn for the past 14 years. You all made her stay at Davis Place a happy one.
Services for Evelyn have been entrusted to Gilman and Valade Funeral Homes and Crematory.
